NASM Certified Personal Trainer

Hi, I’m Laurie or L to the D2R family. I’m a trainer and dedicated to holding myself accountable to staying fit and holding others accountable to their own goals. I’ve also been a social worker for the past 13 years trying to help others so I know change isn’t easy. I wasn’t always living this fit lifestyle: I was a last picked kind of girl in my elementary years and somehow found myself over 200lbs with two kids in my 30s. I had been up and down in weight my whole life and always managed to put the weight back on. I knew I needed to take hold of my health, I was tired of being tired, of staying out of pictures and I wanted to live longer for my family. What I am saying is that I didn’t wake up like this. It took me coming to D2R, lighting a fire in myself and finding a passion to make the change for good. With hard work and dedication, I was able to lose 76lbs and build muscle and a body that I feel good and powerful in. It took completely falling in love with that feeling and “gym life” to keep it going and deciding to be a trainer so others can feel this way. After having my bachelor’s degree in social work since 2006, I became a student once more in 2019 to get certified as a personal trainer through NASM.

There are still days when there are struggles but I keep pushing to new goals to better myself and I hope that push spreads to those around me. I know all too well how those old self-doubts can creep back in and I know all too well the fear of getting started only to let yourself down again. Life has demands, so many demands; for me, thats being a mother, a wife, a social worker,  a girl scout leader, currently a home-schooler and the best trainer I can be to those who trust in me to get them to their goals- but I made a promise to myself 2 years ago, one I used to feel guilty about, but sometimes you have to put yourself first. Self-love!! We can’t be everything to everyone else if we aren’t enough to ourselves first. Let’s show ourselves some self-love and invest in ourselves.
